Treasurer 2009-10 - AVI MINK

Background

For the past three years at york I've been involved in multiple student groups including being the first student senator for the faculty of health. I also currently advise and partially lead a club called health as a bridge to peace. The motto of the club is uniting people based on health (mutual understanding etc.). We have sowed our seed with the dean of faculty of health as well has the president of the university, who introduced our annual event last year as well invited our club to a private dinner to discuss the future of student politics on campus. In my outside school life i currently own and manage two businesses. One is called Mattress Boyz which is a bedding retail/supply/and distribution business (we just launched our new online store, the website is incomplete for now but www.mattressboyz.com is the url). The other business is called Shomin Media and Consulting which provides small businesses advice in starting up and we provide an advertising service across Toronto (Mobile, fixed, flyers etc.) we also own some small internet based businesses. In the field of disasters, I have volunteered overseas on an ambulance force. My background is in Psychology, I completed my honors degree in three years.

Vision for DEMSA

As for a vision for the club, i see it growing first and foremost. My work experience tells me that sowing your seeds with as many people and networking is incredibly helpful to making a business grow. I have seen a few businesses start up and grow and I know how rewarding this is. I will try to integrate this philosophy into the club. I see us as relatively new group going beyond the york community and expanding our horizons to other universities and cities and networking with the appropriate people to connect the DEM students with the world of DM.

You may wonder how I tackle and balance my work life and school, time management for one and prioritizing. In my previous experience I have been able to responsibly handle and responsibilities I assume.
